- There are some vegetables and fruits that protect us particularly well against strokes because they have such high levels of antioxidants. The vegetables include cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli and Brussels sprouts. The fruits include blackcurrants, oranges, Kiwis, and red and yellow peppers.

- Potassium is another essential mineral, like sodium, that we need to balance the fluids in our bodies. It is also important in keeping our heart rate normal and helps our nerves and muscles to function. It is found in bananas, avocados, citrus fruits and green leafy vegetables.
